Eichler Reimagined

This studio explores what happens when mid-century suburbia collides with today’s ADU regulations. Using postwar suburban tracts as testing grounds, I reconstructed Eichler LA-91 in Fairhaven, Orange, CA. I designed a new insertion to the existing fabric - an ADU and a residential art gallery that camouflages, replicates, and exposes the contradictions and potentials of densifying suburbia. The studio is not about preservation. It asks what happens when the new transgresses the existing – when regulation, density, and cultural shifts infiltrate suburban purity. Through rigorous redrawing, critical reflection, speculative modeling, and narrative framing, I uncovered both the vulnerabilities and the possibilities embedded in suburbia.
