Colorito e Disegno - I took this introduction to design while studying Renaissance to Modern Art History. Inspired by the age old, Italian debate - color or design; my project progressed from black and white line analysis to polychromatic, 3-dimensional, architectural model.

The studio focused on artistic composition, color theory, and concept development.

For this studio, we focused on our neighboring city of Tijuana, Mexico. Sixteen city blocks in Tijuana Centro were selected as the most intense region. Positioned at the threshold between the city’s historic district and the red-light district, the neighborhood combines tourism, entertainment, education, gastronomy, and other uses within a condition of extreme overlap. The blocks contain historical and cultural landmarks alongside ongoing public health and safety challenges, making it one of the most provocative sites in the region.

This studio explores what happens when mid-century suburbia collides with today’s ADU regulations. Using postwar suburban tracts as testing grounds, I reconstructed Eichler LA-91 in Fairhaven, Orange, CA. I designed a new insertion to the existing fabric - an ADU and a residential art gallery that camouflages, replicates, and exposes the contradictions and potentials of densifying suburbia.

The studio is not about preservation. It asks what happens when the new transgresses the existing – when regulation, density, and cultural shifts infiltrate suburban purity. Through rigorous redrawing, critical reflection, speculative modeling, and narrative framing, I uncovered both the vulnerabilities and the possibilities embedded in suburbia.

Focuses on passive cooling, material selection, and site integration to enhance occupant comfort and reduce environmental impact.
