Urban Interventions: Informal Densities
For this studio, we focused on our neighboring city of Tijuana, Mexico. Sixteen city blocks in Tijuana Centro were selected as the most intense region. Positioned at the threshold between the city’s historic district and the red-light district, the neighborhood combines tourism, entertainment, education, gastronomy, and other uses within a condition of extreme overlap. The blocks contain historical and cultural landmarks alongside ongoing public health and safety challenges, making it one of the most provocative sites in the region.
The project is ongoing.

The northwest portion of the block houses a public utility, an electrical substation adjacent to an historic, albeit, vacant canaco. La Cámara Nacional de Comercio (Canaco) promotes the interests of entrepreneurs and supports the growth of companies, through various services, such as training, market studies, business diagnoses, consulting on legal and tourism matters, as well as foreign trade.
